Subaru has just launched the Legacy tS in Japan, a Legacy with some valued STI treatment. The model is available to order in Japan with only 300 units being made. It has sportier bumpers, a sports exhaust system and 18-inch wheels. Lots of leather on the inside, black with red stitching and a dark-grey trim. Power on the Legacy tS comes from a 2.5-liter Boxer engine with 173 hp, with a CVT gearbox.
None for the US yet, but check out the video and in the meantime, take a look at our 2013 Subaru Legacy inventory here!

Drive for Excellence in Full Swing - Limited Entries So Far
The Drive for Excellence program is created to encourage strong school performance in high school students in both Vermont and New York. Now in its sixth year, the program has granted five previous students with either a new Subaru Impreza or a new Hyundai Elantra. Previous winners include Shane Mason of Milton High School in 2008, Sarah Cameron of Colchester High School in 2009, Crystal LaHart of Peru Senior High School in 2010 and Zoe Davis of West Rutland High School for 2011.
Over the course of the school year, students may submit their report cards to Burlington Hyundai Subaru right up until 7 p.m. on April 26, 2013. Students are granted two points for each A on their report card and one for each B. Previous years were given credit for perfect attendance, but this proved to have too many discrepancies so that portion was removed.
“We absolutely value perfect attendance and wish there was a better way to count it. Do we say perfect attendance is perfect attendance period? Or is it fine if they missed for a sports game, college fair, the flu – we didn’t want to take away from students that were missing school for good reason, so we took it out,” said Drive for Excellence Program Administrator Cara Gorman.
So far this year Burlington Hyundai Subaru has only received 142 registrations, so if you’re a student and think you don’t have a chance of winning, definitely think again, said Gorman. Burlington Hyundai Subaru chooses 75 finalists at the end of the submission dates to enter the raffle to win the new Impreza or Elantra.
“So far we’ve had opposite choices each year. It’s gone Elantra, Impreza, Elantra, Impreza, Elantra – so we’re thinking whoever wins this year will probably pick the Impreza, but that’s just our superstition,” said Gorman, referring to the staff who always try to guess which car the winner will pick.
To enter to win a new car from Burlington Subaru Hyundai, visit http://www.burlingtoncars.com/drive-for-excellence-register.htm and fill out a registration form, or stop by Burlington Hyundai Subaru to drop off your report card in person.

Subaru Wins Police-Vehicle Design Competition
Each year (for nine years now) the LA Auto Show has put on a Design Challenge, where a theme is chosen and major automotive design studios show their skills. This year, the Design Challenge was to create a concept "Highway Patrol Vehicle 2025", a police vehicle that would be "the ultimate 2025 law enforcement patrol vehicle that supports the needs of dynamic urban environments". Subaru (of course) came out on top with the win, creating the SHARC (Subaru Highway Automated Response Concept), a motorcycle-type vehicle pictured on the right.
Subaru was up against some tough competition, including the GM Volt Squad, Honda Drone Squad, BMW E-Patrol Human-Drone Pursuit Vehicle and the Mercedes-Benz Ener-G-Force.
"In the future the SHARC will provide protection and rapid emergency response solutions for Hawaii's highway patrol. Hawaii will present unique challenges because of its strict environmental regulations... Subaru developed the “cutting-edge” SHARC to be environmentally conscious and also affordable. Because of reduced highway patrol budgets worldwide, Subaru developed the SHARC to be green and carbon-neutral and is powered by renewable energy and operates autonomously. This will reduce the need for a large full-time highway patrol staff. While it sounds “far-out,” this is what caught the attention of the judges and won the design challenge for the Subaru design team," according to Torque News.
Awesome job, Subaru! Maybe someday the streets will be patrolled by Subaru-driving police officers. I'd say it makes sense - most definitely in Vermont. Happy and safe driving fans!

Burlington Subaru & HSCC Pet Adoption Day Recap
Hi fans! Here is the press release we just posted that includes the final numbers from our Pet Adoption Day with the HSCC! Check it out:
Burlington Subaru and the Humane Society of Chittenden County (HSCC) jointly hosted a Pet Adoption Day at Burlington Subaru last Saturday Dec. 1, 2012. The event was part of Subaru of America’s “Share the Love” event, an annual program where five different charities are selected; for every new Subaru vehicle that is purchased between Nov. 21, 2012 and Jan. 2, 2013, Subaru will donate $250 to the charity of the consumer’s choice.
For the fifth year in a row, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was selected, and has matched different Subaru dealers with local animal welfare agencies to host a variety of events, according to the ASPCA website.
This year, the HSCC and Burlington Subaru joined together to host an adoption event, where the HSCC brought in 18 cats and six dogs from their shelter that were in need of a home to be showcased at the dealership for the day.
Out of the animals available at the event, 14 cats and two dogs were adopted, and those numbers are growing still.
“Thanks to this event, we found new homes for three times as many animals as we normally would on an average Saturday. Plus, we had the opportunity to meet lots of new folks who came out specifically for the event. It was a wonderful experience to join forces with Burlington Subaru in fostering new friendships between people and companion animals,” said Megan Stearns, HSCC director of development & outreach.
Burlington Subaru General Manager Steve Kelson was pleased by the outcome as well.
“It’s always great to see people come show their support for a good cause. Subaru owners and Subaru fans have a real love for animals and that showed. We’re happy to have been able to be a part of the Adoption Day and look forward to working with HSCC again in the future,” he said.

Burlington Hyundai Subaru Offering Humane Society Calendar with Purchase of New Vehicle
In conjunction with a Humane Society of Chittenden County (HSCC) fundraiser, Burlington Hyundai Subaru is now offering a free “Pin-ups, Pups & Pussycats” calendar with purchase of new Subaru or Hyundai vehicle.
Burlington Hyundai Subaru recently aided the HSCC with a pet adoption day, now they are continuing their partnership by providing the HSCC’s calendar to customers. The HSCC created a calendar that features 11 of their female employees and their shelter photographer alongside 12 local men and their pets in an old-fashioned pin-up calendar for 2013. This is created to raise money for the shelter.
“This calendar challenged the staff to leave their comfort zones and comfort clothes and accept being front and center – rather than behind the scenes of animal care – to promote animal welfare… But in the end, I think one and all would say we had a lot of fun,” wrote HSCC Director of Development & Outreach, Megan Stearns on the HSCC website page dedicated to the calendar.
The calendars are available to purchase at $19.95 each or $16 each when you spend a minimum of $25 on their online Holiday Store, which offers free shipping. The calendar is also available for sale at HSCC and can be ordered by phone or email.
Contributors to the production of the calendar include photographer Kelly Schultze of Mountain Dog Photography, hair and makeup stylist Jessica A. Pelkey of Salon Elixer, wardrobe donations from the Clothing Line and Bella Boutique, design by Suzanne Fey of oh!suzannah and printing by Queen City Printers.
“We are also immensely grateful for the outpouring of support we received from the community at large for this project – especially the dozen men and their pets who posed – and hope that this calendar brings joy to many animal lovers,” wrote Stearns. Steve Kelson, general manager of Burlington Hyundai Subaru participated as one of the 12 men in the calendar shoot alongside his dog Rylee, and is excited to be a part of the program to aid the shelter.
“We’re always eager to help support people in our local community, and with this calendar we can help raise money for animals, which we love. It was definitely an entertaining experience posing for the photos, but we had a lot of fun,” said Kelson, whose picture is featured for February.
If you purchase a new Hyundai or Subaru vehicle from Burlington Hyundai Subaru, request a calendar at the time of purchase to receive the 2013 “Pin-ups, Pups & Pussycats” calendar.
For more information, please contact Steve Kelson at (802) 660-8099 ex. 156 or Megan Stearns at (802) 862-0135 ex. 15 or visit the HSCC calendar website page here.

2014 Subaru Forester Debut
The 2014 Subaru Forester has finally made its debut at the LA Auto Show, which has been going on since late last week. You may have already read our other blog featuring the new Forester, but here's a little excerpt from it accompanied by a video of the Japanese world premier video.
Additions to expect from the 2014 Forester: it has options of either a six-speed manual (as opposed to five-speed on the 2013) or continuously variable transmission; both with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine that makes 250 horsepower (up from the previous model's 224 hp). The CVT offers six and eight-speed manual models and Hill Descent Control.
Subaru says that the 2014 Forester has a "bolder profile" that is influenced by its Impreza sibling. AWD will of course be standard, and additional leg room and cargo area space has been installed. Optional features include a navigation system, rearview camera and a Harmon Kardon premium audio system.
If you can't wait for it, turbocharged doesn't interest you or you're just a fan of the original - view our 2013 Subaru Forester inventory, 2012 Forester inventory or our used Subaru Forester selection here.

Please feel free to comment on your favorites, or any other animal pairings you enjoy :)

The 2013 Subaru Outback - the perfect companion, whether you're on the road or off it. You can put trust in this one, and of course it'll stand by you. It's adventurous, safe and loyal - a perfect partner!

Burlington Subaru to Host Pet Adoption Day for the Humane Society of Chittenden County
Hi fans! We're about to publish our press release about the upcoming adoption event, so here it is!
Burlington Subaru and the Humane Society of Chittenden County (HSCC) will jointly host a Pet Adoption Day at Burlington Subaru from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 1, 2012. The event is part of Subaru of America’s “Share the Love” event, an annual program where five different charities are selected; for every new Subaru vehicle that is purchased between Nov. 21, 2012 and Jan. 2, 2013, Subaru will donate $250 to the charity of the consumer’s choice.
For the fifth year in a row, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has been selected, and has matched different Subaru dealers with local animal welfare agencies to host a variety of events, according to the ASPCA website.
This year, the HSCC and Burlington Subaru will join together to host an adoption event, where the HSCC will bring in animals from their shelter that are in need of a home to be showcased at the dealership for the day; there is no appointment needed to attend.
“HSCC jumped at this opportunity to find new homes for hopefully four times as many animals in a single Saturday as we ordinarily would at our adoption center. We hope this event brings lots of visibility to our animals and exposes new people to the joy of adopting a shelter animal,” said Megan Stearns, HSCC director of development and outreach.
“Give the gift of love this holiday season” is the chosen slogan for the event, and Mountain Dog Photography’s Kelly Schulze will be on site to photograph complimentary holiday portraits of pets with their new owners.
In honor of the event, Burlington Subaru has pledged to donate $100 for every animal that’s adopted at the event.
“Being a Subaru dealer, we’ve encompassed Subaru’s general gratitude for the companionship that animals give us as people. We’re very happy to be working with the Humane Society on this event and we hope that, with the help from our community, we can find these animals good, loving homes,” said Burlington Subaru General Manager Steve Kelson.
Pre-approval is not necessary, but will make the adoption process at the dealership move more quickly, according to HCSS’s Facebook event page. To get pre-approved to adopt an animal please see the HSCC application here.
For more information, please visit the Burlington Subaru Facebook or HSCC Facebook page.

The 2013 Subaru BRZ Video: Why It's Worth It
Cars.com's Kicking Tires blog just posted a video review of the Subaru BRZ.
According to their website, "The Subaru BRZ is not only a great-looking sports car loaded with available features, but it's also a remarkably fun, well-balanced coupe. However, it's got a tiny backseat and overall firm ride, as well as a $1,300 price premium over its twin, the Scion FR-S. Is it worth it? Cars.com reviewer Joe Wiesenfelder takes a close look at one of today's true affordable sports cars and explains why the answer is yes."

2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek: Contending for Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year
The 2013 Subaru VX Crosstrek is officially a contender to win the 2013 Motor Trend Sport-Utility of the Year! We're not overly surprised that the XV Crosstrek is among 11 vehicles in the top spots for the award (four of which are luxury vehicles made by Mercedes, Audi and Acura), but we thought we share the great news with our fans!
What Motor Trend has to say about the Crosstrek:
It handles and parks like a compact car, but will still carry sporting accessories and friends, and is capable of light off-roading. Its 22.4 MPG from hard, real-world driving is nearly four MPG better than the second-best on the list; the Mercedes-Benz GL350 Bluetec."These features make the Crosstrek the poster-vehicle for driving to that mountain bike trail in the woods," Motor Trend adds.
They say that ordering the manual gearbox makes a good difference. The base trim level starts at $22,970, upping to $25,290 for added automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, a better radio, leather-trimmed seats and a CVT gearshift knob.
Preorder your Sport/Utility of the Year contender by going to our Subaru XV Crosstrek reservation page here. We'll keep you updated as when they'll be rolling onto the lot, which should be any day now.
Happy driving Subaru fans!

UPDATE: the winner was just announced, congratulations to the Mercedes-Benz GL for winning the award! Still want a Crosstrek? Don't blame ya! Head to our Subaru VX Crosstrek page here.

2013 Subaru Outback Review
"Reviewers say the 2013 Outback successfully combines the utility of an SUV with the drive-ability of a car, making it one of the best wagons in the class," according to a review by US News.
The 2013 Outback of course is equipped with Subaru's standard AWD. It also has the option of either a four-cylinder engine (best for commuting and in-town driving), or six-cylinder, which is best for highway passing, merging and navigating hilly terrain.
According to US News' review, it drives like a sedan, but has confident handling and a smooth ride. Yet another top safety pick from the IIHS, the 2013 Subaru Outback has a roomy, nicely-built interior, fully equipped with the all-new Subaru EyeSight system and Bluetooth phone and music connectivity.
US News is overly enthused about the all-new Outback, and we are too! Give us a call if you'd like more info, or head to our website to check out our selection of 2013 Subaru Outbacks!

Subaru EyeSight System Tested
If you haven't heard of the Subaru EyeSight driver-assist technology, it is a camera-based technology designed to assist drivers in seeing obstacles or dangers that will potentially lead to a collision. EyeSight is currently limited to the 2013 Legacy and 2013 Outback, but will be showing up in more models in the next model year.
The reason why Subaru's EyeSight is so revolutionary is because it's typically a technology found only in luxury cars. Subaru is the first to make technology like this available at an affordable price. Car and Driver went out with Subaru to test the EyeSight system and just posted their first-hand review of the technology.
"EyeSight employs a pair of forward-facing stereoscopic cameras mounted inside the car on either side of the rear-view mirror, which are connected to the throttle and brakes. The cameras and corresponding software “scan” the road ahead (up to 87 yards ahead of the car) and can initiate a series of collision warnings and avoidance measures if it determines a collision is imminent. EyeSight also includes lane-departure warnings—it can “see” lane markings and determine the car’s position within them. The adaptive cruise control can bring the car to a complete stop from speeds of up to 87 mph, but drivers are prompted to accelerate from a stop—the system won’t get the car going again on its own. A push of a button or a touch of the accelerator resumes the cruise control’s functionality, and the car will accelerate back to the set speed on its own from there," according to Car and Driver.
The reviewers went through a chunk of tests, from head-on collisions and lane departure (the collisions, which EyeSight prevented, were into foam walls - so no possible injuries!). They found the system to be very effective, and were also keen on hearing that when it doubt, the car goes with the action of the driver (meaning there won't be any loss of control of the vehicle for the driver, and the driver also has the option of turning the system off completely). They did have one concern, however, which is that it's a camera-based system so that in the case of bad weather it won't be as effective.
If you have any questions about Subaru EyeSight, please give us a call at (877) 351-0867; our wonderful service team has been in training to learn how EyeSight works exactly so they have loads of information :)

2013 Subaru BRZ Scores Top Safety Pick Status from the IIHS
2013 Subaru BRZ Crash Test Video
Last week, the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) announced that the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S received Top Safety Pick status. The first video shows a side impact test, where the vehicle gets hit by another object going 31 mph. The second video is a head on collision, where the BRZ runs into a wall at 40 mph. The videos shown are of the Scion FR-S, but as they're structurally identical, the Subaru BRZ will perform and react the same way in a collision.Typically light-weight sports cars do not perform this well in crash tests, so Subaru lovers who are potential or current parents and family members have no fear of the BRZ's performance in the case of accident.
After you've finished watching, head to our website to check out our 2013 Subaru BRZ inventory or call (877) 544-2985 for more info!

Video: 2013 Subaru BRZ Tackles Snake Road
Subaru video ad: the 2013 Subaru BRZ rides smoothly on treacherous "snake road"
The "snake road" in this video is obviously mythical, but it is an awesome watch! While it's fantasy, it shows the rear-wheel drive, acceleration and low center of gravity that the BRZ does possess, and what makes it so fun to drive. Check it out!

Perfect Wine & Cheese Pairings!
Almost every cheese out there has a wine that would taste amazing with it - probably because both cheese and wine are so delicious! Well-regarded wine blog Spittoon has a massive list full of details on which wines pair best with specific kinds of cheese. Click to see their list of wine and cheese pairing at any time, but check out below where we'll highlight a few more popular types of cheese and the best wine to drink with them.
Camembert - "At its best when the centre is still hard while the outer is creamy. Quite salty. Go for a red wine here – Cotes d`Castillon or other aged Bordeaux reds. A new world Pinot Noir would also suit. Also consider a Greco di Tufo."
Brie - "A difficult one as the classical tang of ammonia often jars nastily with wine. Try a red from the South of France – Fitou or Corbieres. An LBV port is also worth trying. Champagne works as would other dry sparkling wines."
Cheddar - "Buy the best you can afford and revel in the flavour combinations with a Sauvignon Blanc for a white or a good claret, Rhone, or Rhone styled wine from California or Australia. Zinfandel is great too. An Argentinian Bonarda makes a tasty, affordable alternative."
Goat - "A catch all category for so many different cheeses – to match try a good Rhone Red or a Sauvignon Blanc. Classic taste combinations. Also perhaps an Italian Trebbiano."
Gruyère - "Again a Sauvignon Blanc or for a red wine an Australian Shiraz, a New World Sangiovese or a Chianti. Champagne especially vintage or Blanc de Blancs is also recommended. Gewürztraminer for a white."
Gorgonzola - "A sweet wine is needed here. Look into getting a German or Austrian Trockenbeerenauslese or a Hungarian Tokaji. Sauternes is also good."
There are some popular favorites, and let's not forget the vast selection of both wine and wood that will be present for your enjoyment at the Burlington Wine and Food Festival (click for the amazing food menu). We're keeping our Facebook contest open until midnight tonight, so enter the contest now to win your free Burlington Wine and Food Fest tickets!

Wine, Food & Vehicle Pairing of the Week!
There's less than a week left until the Burlington Wine and Food Festival, which we're so excited about! If anything has prepared us for a Saturday full of wine and food tasting, it's been constantly writing and learning about wine and the food that goes with it. If you haven't entered our Facebook contest yet, be sure to do it today! We're only taking entries through tomorrow, and this is an event you don't want to miss!
For today's wine, food and vehicle pairing, we're going to be pairing a versatile treat with both a versatile wine and vehicle. Here is a recipe for spiced herb nuts, which look delicious and are perfect for an evening treat or for when you have guests over.
Ingredients (recipe courtesy of epicurious):
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons (packed) light brown sugar
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 1/2 teaspoons fresh thyme, chopped
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 pound (about 2 cups) raw unsalted mixed nuts
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375°F.
In medium saucepan over moderately low heat, combine all ingredients except nuts. Cook, stirring frequently, until butter and sugar melt completely, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add nuts and toss well to combine.
Spread nuts on large rimmed baking sheet and bake, stirring after 7 minutes, until golden and fragrant, 12 to 15 minutes. Cool in pan on rack. (Nuts can be made up to 3 days ahead and stored at room temperature in airtight container.)
For this recipe, both a bubbly Prosecco or dry Riesling would pair nicely, with the acidity standing up well to the spice of the nuts. We found a wine that has both the bubby and Riesling; Bonny Doon Vineyard's DEWN Riesling to Live, which is a dry Riesling made à la méthode champenoise, making it a sparkling wine. We chose this wine not only for its excellent pairing ability with our recipe, but because Bonny Doon Vineyard will be one of the vineyards showcased at the Burlington Wine and Food Festival this weekend.
Lastly, what vehicle do we think pairs best with this spicy, enjoyable combo? The all-new Subaru BRZ. This innovative sports car went outside of the box for Subaru, merging the great minds behind different but huge automobile makers. It's absolutely a "spiced" up model for the Subaru line.
The best part is, we have a few in stock! My pick from our BRZs for this food, wine and vehicle combination is the lightning red BRZ, but we have a few others as well; check out our 2013 Subaru BRZ inventory to see for yourself.
Enjoy this spiced-up combination of food, wine and a vehicle, just don't mix the last two together! And start getting excited for the Burlington Wine and Food Festival, this Saturday June 23 at the Burlington Waterfront Park.

Staff Pick: Wine of the Week!
For our pick for this week's Wine of the Week, we asked Digital Video & Website Specialist Chelsea Thompson to tell us about one of her favorites (some of you may know her as ^CT from our Facebook!). She chose Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc.
"It's a very vibrant wine that goes great with Thai food - my favorite! It has citrus notes, reminiscent of lemon meringue pie. It's perfect for summer and extremely tasty, definitely one of my favorites," says Chelsea.
So enjoy the lovely weather, and enjoy a glass of Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc over the weekend. Just over one week until the Burlington Wine and Food Festival! Our Facebook contest ends this Tuesday (June 12) so make sure to enter to win free tickets to the festival!

Health Benefits of Wine

Wine, Food & Vehicle Pairing of the Week
Pairing wine with a car is not a common combination (and we do not recommend drinking wine while or before driving a vehicle!), but since it is wine month, we’re going to offer a recipe and a type of wine that goes well with it. And while we’re at it, we’ll pair a car – one that has characteristics of that type of wine – whether the car is refreshing and spunky, or mellow with some endurance, we’ll find a good match.
Before we begin, don’t forget to enter our contest on Facebook to win free tickets to the Burlington Wine and Food Festival on June 23 at the Burlington Waterfront Park.
So today we’ll be pairing Aligoté, which is an acidic white wine that contains aromas of apples and lemons. It works wonderfully at opening up flavors of cheese and smoked meat. Another option for pairing with the following recipe is Sauvignon Blanc, which as we mentioned in our Most Popular Types of Wine post, blends very nicely with seafood and chèvre.
Since both wines go so nicely with smoked meat, seafood and goat cheese, here is a recipe from Simply Recipes that contains all! These smoked salmon and goat cheese toasts are the perfect finger food for this hot weather, and would pair beautifully with a nice, chilled glass of Aligote or Sauvignon Blanc.
Here's what you'll need (recipe makes about 40 pieces):
8 oz soft fresh goat cheese
1 Tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
1 Tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
2 teaspoons of grated lemon peel
1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
2 1/2 Tablespoons olive oil 30 thin slices French-bread baguette
12 oz thinly sliced smoked salmon
Thinly peeled lemon peel strips from one lemon, cut into tiny slivers
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix the goat cheese, herbs, lemon zest, and black pepper in a small bowl to blend. Set aside.
Brush oil over both sides of bread. Arrange bread in single layer on a large baking sheet. Bake until bread is just crisp, about 5 minutes on each side.
Spread cheese mixture over toasts. Top with salmon, trimming to fit. Garnish with lemon peel strips. Arrange on platter, serve and enjoy!
Now for the car, this recipe and wine selection remind us a bit of the Subaru Legacy. With its versatility and fresh new design this car is a perfect contender to go with the bright, tasty combo above. Just take a look; I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! To view our 2012 Subaru Legacy inventory click here.
Stay tuned for more wine, food and Subaru-related posts, and enjoy this gorgeous summer day! Only 12 more days until the Burlington Wine and Food Festival!
