FAQs About the Annual Subaru Share the Love Event

In lieu of the annual Share the Love Event, we figured some people may have a few questions about how it works, and how the charities chosen by the customers receive their donations. If you have any more questions that aren't addressed below, please post a comment and we'll get back to you as quickly as possible! To learn even more about the event, head to our Share the Love page here!

Subaru Share the Love Event FAQs
Q: How do I select the charity or charities I want to receive the donation?

A: At time of delivery you will be asked to provide your name, contact information, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and charity selection. Burlington Subaru will send in your selection and Subaru will then make the donation on your behalf.

Q: What if I want to split the donation (i.e. select more than one charity) or vote more than once?

A: Each customer who has purchased or leased a new Subaru (2013 or 2014) can either allocate the $250 donation to one charity, or split it amongst any number of participating charities. Only one donation (of $250) is made per vehicle sale or lease.

Q: I bought a car, but forgot to submit my charity selection. Where does the money go?

A: For those who do not make their charity selection by January 31, 2014, Subaru will distribute the donation evenly among the five national charities.

Subaru Share the Love Event FAQs
Q: How will I know that the donation was made?

A: You will receive a "thank you" letter from Subaru and the charities that received your donation once all of the submissions have been processed.

Q: By what date will Subaru make the donations to each charity? How much money is expected to be donated?

A: Subaru will make the donation to each charity by March 1, 2014. During last year's "Share the Love" event, Subaru donated $5 million, and Subaru is hoping to donate up to $10 million this year. Over the past four years of the event, $25 million have been donated.

Q: Do I get a tax credit for this donation?

A:Because the donation is being made by Subaru to each of the participating charities, donations are not tax-deductible to purchasers.

Q: Why do some retailers have 5 charity options and others have 6 charity options?

Subaru Share the Love Event FAQsA: This year, Subaru of America offered the retailer community an optional opportunity to select a sixth charity, local to their community, to join the national five charities in the "Share the Love" event. While some retailers are participating in this option, others chose to participate solely with the five nationals charities. That's why we're partnered up with the local Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf as our charity of choice!

Burlington Subaru to Partner with the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf for 2013 Share the Love Event

We're thrilled to announce that we'll be teaming up with the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf (CEFS) for this year's Share the Love event! Please check out our press release below, we've highlighted the ways you can help the cause in green so they're easy to spot:

From Nov. 21, 2013 to Jan. 2, 2014, Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru sold or leased to the customer's choice of six charities; ASPCA, Make-A-Wish, Meals On Wheels Association of America, National Park Foundation, Teach for America or a local nonprofit chosen by the Subaru dealer; at Burlington Subaru, they’ve chosen to support CEFS.

“We’re so pleased to have the opportunity to work with a local nonprofit in conjunction with this year’s Share the Love Event,” said Burlington Subaru General Manager Steve Kelson. “We’re honored to help provide assistance to an organization that does so much for local Vermonters in need.”

Kelson says that their goal is to raise $30,000 during the time of the Share the Love Event for CEFS. According to CEFS Development Manager Sophia Morton this would be huge for the program. Three meals come from just $1 according to Morton; $250 provides 750 meals, while $12,500 provides 37,500. If Burlington Subaru succeeds in their goal of raising $30,000 it would mean that 90,000 meals could be provided to those in need.

Burlington Subaru will also be offering their customers $5 off of their service appointments if they bring in one or more cans of food for donations. Kelson says that they have a Subaru Outback in the dealership showroom that they are hoping to fill completely with donated food; the goal is to collect at least 500 cans.

For those looking for yet another way to provide donations to the Food Shelf, Burlington Subaru will be giving up to $1,000 via their Facebook. They ask that Facebook users go to the Burlington Subaru page and “share” the dealership’s designated post regarding CEFS. For each share of these posts they will donate $5, up to $1,000. The extra $1,000 coming from Facebook shares alone will provide an additional 3,000 meals, equaling a total donation of 93,000 meals, on top of the 500 cans collected in the Outback.

CEFS provides meals six days per week as well as a variety of other hunger-relief programs. They offer a five-day supply of groceries once per month to those in need, as well as a delivery program for those who are unable to come in. There are also opportunities for people to come in five days per week to receive fresh produce and bread.

CEFS currently serves over 12,000 people each year. For a full description of all of CEFS current hunger-relief programs, please visit their website here. For more information regarding the Share the Love Event or Burlington Subaru’s sponsorship, please contact Steve Kelson at (802) 448-3856.

Transformation Tuesday: The Subaru Legacy

1989 Subaru Legacy - Burlington Subaru Transformation Tuesday
For our own version of "Transformation Tuesday", we've decided to do a few then-and-now features of Subaru models. First up is the Subaru Legacy, which has come an enormously long way since its introduction in 1989 - just look at the photo! Even passenger airbags weren't standard in the original Legacy; those came in 1995 with the Legacy's second generation.

Now, the Subaru Legacy has a slew of safety features (to go with its convenience and entertainment features) including:

2014 Subaru Legacy - Burlington Subaru Transformation Tuesday
  • EyeSight Driver Assist system (monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control and gives lane-departure warning)
  • Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
  • Smart braking system
  • Vehicle dynamics control (Subaru's Vehicle Dynamics Control)
  • Advanced protection system (this includes Subaru's extensive airbag inventory as well as its successful frame)

We don't have any of the former models around just now, but we do have the new one -- check out our 2014 Subaru Legacy overview here! And stay tuned for more of our "Transformation Tuesday" posts!

Watch the Emergency Vehicle Operations Center's "Crossover Vehicle Challenge"!

Five crossover vehicles are put to the test!

2014 Subaru Forester - Emergency Vehicle Operations Center
The Emergency Vehicle Operations Center is designed to teach first responders about adverse driving conditions that they'll experience while protecting the public. They conducted a experiment to see which of the top five crossover vehicles performed best in an array of driving conditions.

2014 Subaru Forester - Emergency Vehicle Operations Center I'm sure you could guess -- but Subaru was their favorite by far! They loved Subaru's X-Mode (the system that helps brake and maneuver when you're driving on rough terrain, keeping the ride more smooth and safe), and on top of their other favorite moments, the Subaru Forester was the only one in the video that made it through the snow!

Check out the video below, and if you love the Forester in it, take a look at our 2014 Subaru Forester inventory here, or browse any of our new Subaru models here.

Meet our Burlington Subaru Sales Manager, Brady Burgess.

Brady Burgess - Burlington Subaru Sales Manager
A Northeastern University graduate, Brady has lived in Vermont for over 30 years, though if he could travel anywhere in the world he would choose to go to Australia. His favorite Vermont beer is the Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter, and his favorite song is Slim Shady by Eminem.

Brady's biggest fear is (was) filling out his staff form for his bio, though if he hadn't, we wouldn't know about his favorite pastime -- Brady Burgess - Burlington Subaru Sales Manager bolphing! He even has his own bolph course. What is "bolph" you may ask? In Brady's own words:

"Bolph is a wonderful game invented and played in my hometown of Lincoln. It is the same as golf but instead of using golf clubs and balls you use softball bats and balls, cricket bats, wooden paddles and croquet-style mallets for putting. There are two courses; each covers roughly 10 acres."

Check out his video below, or head to Brady's full staff page for more info!
