We're thrilled to announce that we'll be teaming up with the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf (CEFS) for this year's Share the Love event! Please check out our press release below, we've highlighted the ways you can help the cause in green so they're easy to spot:
From Nov. 21, 2013 to Jan. 2, 2014, Subaru will donate $250 for every new Subaru sold or leased to the customer's choice of six charities; ASPCA, Make-A-Wish, Meals On Wheels Association of America, National Park Foundation, Teach for America or a local nonprofit chosen by the Subaru dealer; at Burlington Subaru, they’ve chosen to support CEFS.
“We’re so pleased to have the opportunity to work with a local nonprofit in conjunction with this year’s Share the Love Event,” said Burlington Subaru General Manager Steve Kelson. “We’re honored to help provide assistance to an organization that does so much for local Vermonters in need.”
Kelson says that their goal is to raise $30,000 during the time of the Share the Love Event for CEFS. According to CEFS Development Manager Sophia Morton this would be huge for the program. Three meals come from just $1 according to Morton; $250 provides 750 meals, while $12,500 provides 37,500. If Burlington Subaru succeeds in their goal of raising $30,000 it would mean that 90,000 meals could be provided to those in need.
Burlington Subaru will also be offering their customers $5 off of their service appointments if they bring in one or more cans of food for donations. Kelson says that they have a Subaru Outback in the dealership showroom that they are hoping to fill completely with donated food; the goal is to collect at least 500 cans.
For those looking for yet another way to provide donations to the Food Shelf, Burlington Subaru will be giving up to $1,000 via their Facebook. They ask that Facebook users go to the Burlington Subaru page and “share” the dealership’s designated post regarding CEFS. For each share of these posts they will donate $5, up to $1,000. The extra $1,000 coming from Facebook shares alone will provide an additional 3,000 meals, equaling a total donation of 93,000 meals, on top of the 500 cans collected in the Outback.
CEFS provides meals six days per week as well as a variety of other hunger-relief programs. They offer a five-day supply of groceries once per month to those in need, as well as a delivery program for those who are unable to come in. There are also opportunities for people to come in five days per week to receive fresh produce and bread.
CEFS currently serves over 12,000 people each year. For a full description of all of CEFS current hunger-relief programs, please visit their website here. For more information regarding the Share the Love Event or Burlington Subaru’s sponsorship, please contact Steve Kelson at (802) 448-3856.
