Subaru has partnered up with The Weather Channel to give drivers a tool for gauging driving difficulty before heading out on the roads. The Weather Channel has a new layer on its online maps that is called the Driving Difficulty Index, where people can use an interactive weather map to see what level of difficulty they'll have traveling in the current conditions.

Subaru's involvement is the included advertising space on all of the maps. They (Subaru) will also offer Car Clinic video segments and tips to aid drivers in improving their driving safety.

Weather Company VP of Weather Analytics Paul Walsh said that the Driving Difficulty Index is a partnership that's unique to the two brands because of their shared focus and expertise on driving safety in potentially-hazardous weather conditions. Subaru is the only automaker whose models are all IIHS Top Safety Picks.

"The index is based on various factors including ice, snow, ponding of water, high winds, and low visibility," according to the article in technology tell. "When selected by the user, the Driving Difficulty Index map shows users where difficult driving conditions are present."
