Subaru recommends the NHTSA insider tips:
The U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently released survey results that show Americans use their electronic devices while driving, even though there's been extensive warnings that it impairs their driving ability and can lead to crashes, injury and even death.
According to the data, more than 3,300 people were killed in 2011, and 387,000 were injured in accidents that were the result of a distracted driver. To prevent this type of driving, the Department of Transportation recommends:
- Turn off electronic devices and put them out of reach before driving
- Be a good role model for younger drivers; speak with your teens about responsible driving
- Speak up when you're a passenger and you driver uses a device while driving; offer to make the call for the driver
- Always wear your seatbelt; they're your best defense!
