Heat wave? Try these stay-cool tips:
Mother Nature Network posted these unusual but effective ways to stay cool this summer (or this week; it's been so hot!). Check out the list below, and if all else fails - hop in your Subaru for an AC-filled drive :)
Go tropical
Dress like the locals do in tropical areas; loose, lightweight cotton and linen clothing. The "Mexican wedding shirt", called the guayabera, is designed to wisk moisture away from skin, while wearing it untucked helps with air circulation.
Cool that pulse point
Cooling your pulse points naturally cools you down; splash water on your wrists, or on your face to get your temples.
Don't eat: Graze
Large meals "force your body to stoke its metabolic fires"; break your eating up into smaller and more frequent meals to avoid the post-eating drowsiness and temperature rise.
Eat to sweat
Spicy foods can help you cool down, which is said to be because they can make you sweat without actually raising your body temperature - and sweating is our No. 1 way to cool down.
Stay cool under the covers
Can't sleep in the heat? Put ice water in water bottles under your ankles and the back of your knees. You can also bag up your sheets and put them in the freezer for a couple of hours before bed. Your body will be cooled if your head is cooled first, so try a cool and absorbent pillow of cotton versus latex or down.
