Subaru Parent Company Celebrates its 60th Year!

Fuji Heavy Industries turns 60!

A lot of people are unaware, but Fuji Heavy Industries initially started as an aircraft company, going through various names before settling on FHI. In 1958, it flew Japan's first jet-powered trainer, which is the same year that it unveiled the Subaru 360 minicar.

The Subaru 360 was both rear-drive and rear-engine, and was joined later by the 1000, which was Subaru's first front-engine and front-wheel drive vehicle. In 1971, the Subaru Leone came about, which offered a combination of all-wheel drive and a flat-four engine - what we're familiar with today.
